The pre-qualifier event will see competitors battle it out for the unique opportunity to play alongside many of the world’s best golfers and some very famous faces at the official JP McManus Pro-Am at Adare Manor in 2020.
The unique charity Pro-Am event offers amateur and hobby golfers the chance to play alongside some of the best in the world. Tait House hopes that over 25 teams will tee off at their official pre-qualifier event which hopes to raise over €13,000.
Speaking at Today’s announcement, Chairperson of Tait House Jerry O’Dea said: “As an organisation we are delighted to be in a position to host our very first pre-qualifier event as part the JP McManus Pro-Am. This event has enabled organisations from across the Mid-West region to do tremendous work with many millions raised since the event was first held in 1990.
“I have seen first-hand the incredible vision that Tait House has for its future. The organisation is in the process of implementing plans for the establishment of Limerick City Urban farm, a project that will see a major organisational expansion at the Tait House property in Southill. The Urban Farm is expected to be the largest operation of its kind in the city when completed and has the potential to turn the area of Southill into a model of environmental, social and economic recovery”, he said.
The proposed Urban Farm is hoped to develop social, cultural and recreational opportunities for the people of Southill and the wider Community to enjoy. The new project will complement existing initiatives currently undertaken by Tait House community Enterprise which employs 160 people across 20 Social Enterprises.
Tracey Lynch, CEO at Tait House said: “We want to develop our on-site facilities to establish a unique social enterprise which will deliver, demonstrate and disseminate knowledge about urban agriculture, the circular economy, food sharing and waste management”
“Through participatory learning and action, Limerick City Urban Farm and visitors centre will inspire people to adopt sustainable practices in their everyday lives and encourage a philosophy of conscious consumption. This new social enterprise will create jobs immediately, support a pathway to employment and create a place where people can come to discuss and learn”.
The JP McManus Pro-Am will see its sixth staging in July 2020 when it takes place at the Tom Fazio redesigned Golf Course at Adare Manor. Since its inception in 1990, the event has attracted golf’s leading names to Ireland and raised over €140 million for beneficiaries.
The 2020 event has already confirmed the likes of Justin Rose, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Pádraig Harrington and Paul McGinley along with celebrities such as Jamie Dornan, Mark Wahlberg, Niall Horan and Hugh Grant.
Tracey Lynch said: “Being accepted as an official organisation for the JP McManus Pro-Am is a huge boost to our us. We are encouraging as many golf enthusiasts across Limerick to book a tee time and to support our event. This will be a fun day and a super opportunity to network with the huge number of supporters we have built up at Tait House over many years”.
